In this novel, Scout is a young girl who views Atticus as nearly a god-like figure. He appears all-knowing and all wise. However, Atticus is only human, so he must have some flaws. First of all, he endangers his family when he defends Tom Robinson. Yes, it is honorable to defend Tom Robinson, but should he do that at perhaps, the expense of his children's safety? Secondly, in the instance with the rabid dog, Scout has always viewed her father as older;he does not interact with his children on a playful level or a physical level, such as playing sports with them. However, when he shoots the rabid dog, Scout sees a side to him that he has kept hidden, his physical skill. She has needed to see Attitcus as more than a father or a lawyer, but as a man, a real human being with physical attributes.
