It would seem to tell us that love is much stronger than some loyalties we have. Many of the characters do certain things because they are driven by deep love and devotion (and perhaps in Helena's case, obsession!) to their "true loves." Strong and powerful love can cause what we think are normal, rational human beings to do spontaneous, out-of-character things. Romantic love can be much more powerful than loyalties and responsibilities we have in our normal lives.
