George Eliot was born Mary Ann Evans in Warwickshire, England, on November 22, 1819, to Robert Evans, Sr., a carpenter turned estate manager, and his second wife, the former Christiana Pearson. Ms. Evans' living siblings were an older half-brother and sister, Robert and Fanny, from her father's first marriage.
