Summary
Celia is enthralled with her baby, Arthur, but Dorothea finds she needs to do more than watch his every movement. After three months at Freshitt Hall, she returns permanently to Lowick Manor. Dorothea refuses to accept a companion there. She makes her private peace with her deceased husband and catches glimpses of Ladislaw whenever she can. Ladislaw surprises her by arriving to announce he will be leaving Middlemarch; he is chagrined...
