What does Kafka imply about the society by the way various characters treat him and through what he has become? What points could I address in an essay about this?? Posted by tishmel on Aug 28, 2007. |

Certainly Gregor Samsa is pictured as the submissive and compliant drone who does what is expected and cleans up the clutter left by others. It is an interesting idea that Gregor transforms into an insect that lives by consuming the garbage left behind by others. Society is cruel to those who shuffle along, doing the expected, never complaining, and underappreciated. Gregor is unwilling to speak for himself and follow his own plan. His internal desires are hidden away as he trudges along doing whatever others demand of him, earning no more respect than the loathsome insect he becomes.
