Because of transformative knowledge we learn that Christopher Columbus did not really discover America. This causes us to question our thinking in many areas. Because it challenges the truths that we have been taught. In mainstream academia we are taught that Christopher Columbus discovered the America, thus why we celebrate Columbus day. Mainstream academic knowledge is objective, meaning it is not always based on complete truths but is a result of "research". We were taught that Columbus discovered the Americas because historians told us this happened and it could be proved 500 years ago. With the transformative knowledge that Columbus did not discover the Americas one should question why we have such celebrations and why we are not teaching the correct version of history. As we explore multiculturalism further we discover that the United States has a deep rooted history in oppression of minority groups. Once could compare what we have done during the Japanese Internment Camps, and the desecration of Native Americans and their land and wonder what else our history books are NOT teaching.
