I am not really sure in which direction you are going with this, but there are several connections between these two people. Both recieved the Kennedy Honors. Johnny Cash and Maya Angelou are both members of the Academy of Achievement; both connected through the Horatio Alger Foundation, both have be honored by and acknowledge on the Arkansas Walk of Fame, and Maya Angelo was a guest speaker for the documentary Johnny Cash: The Man, His World, His Music aired on PBS Television. They both also wrote autobiographies. Posted by ladyvols1 on Jan 28, 2009. |

Both were and are poets and very spiritual. Cash was called the voice of the common man, and Angelou's poetry was used sort of as the voice of the nation at Clinton's first inauguration. Both are Southern and grew up poor. Posted by linda-allen on Jan 29, 2009. |
