A refrigerator sells for $950 but I bought it for $760. What percent was deducted from the original price?

    The first thing you must do is subtract $760 from $950. The result should be $190. Then you divide 190.00 by 950.00 and you will get .2 as your answer. This means that the discount for the refridgerator was 20%.

    Agree. I also like to create equations for this type of questions.

    original price - the deducted percent = discounted price

    950 - x (950) = 760

    950 - 760 = 950 x

    190 = 950 x

    x = 0.2 = 20/100 = 20%

    (950-760)/950=x/100

    190/950=x/100

    950x=19000

    x=20%
