What is use of arithmetic in daily life?

If you want to have a healthy life, and one in which you do not waste money, you use arithmetic all the time. Every time you go to the grocery store, you should be calculating which item of the several offered is the best buy. Is it the box of cereal that is 20 cents per ounce, or $3.00 per pound? Which type of frozen pizza is not only the best buy, but the one with the lowest percentage of saturated fat? If you need to replace the carpet in the living room, how many square feet do you need? When you go to buy, the price of some types is given in price per square foot, the price of others in price per square yard. How do you compare the two? Can you calculate the gas mileage your new car is getting? If you can't figure out elapsed time, how can you make sure you get to your appointments on time? When you are cooking, can you double a recipe? What are your actual chances of winning a lottery?

These are just off the top of my head; enotes doesn't really have a math reference section, but if you google "daily math uses", I bet you come up with a lot more!

Arithmetics is the helping hand on all occasions with or without our consciousness.Numerals , the digits , logical rules and concepts, +,-,X and / -are some of the basic components  of the great this subject.

We start the day  with  counting from the time we wakup. The number of spoons of sugar we require for the morning tea,the time at which we should start work till we end our work depends on the time which is measured through arithmetic. A cook needs the proportion of the inputs in the dishes he prepares and  time he sould serve it.

Our daily expenditure, the routine budget is only a different name of arithmetic.Arithmatic is the base on which planning, quality control, production stands and can be assed/examined/reviewed for their performance. It helps identify the bad performance area ,enabling to rectify the correction in the process.

The modern science and its acivements has a great contribution from arithmetic.We cannot analyse light, electricity or a tiniest atom which uses mathematics which has its paternity in arithmetic only. Mathematics has its sound base in arithmetics and can be used as tool to critically examine and  asses both physical and abstract things . Any thing can be quantified for its quality and special characteristics and then it  can be compared ,assessed or examined-here words or articulation comes next to comparing . While we  say A is better than B ,the adjective better has its strength in ' how much A and B measured or scored or what are the percentile in which A and B stand . And reality of mathematical or scientic hypothesis is ultimately scrutinised/examined or tested  with the reality show of arithmetics.

Arithmetic is pervading -time, space ,life  and beyond life the entire universe.

Arithmetic is the most basic and and the oldest part of mathematics that deals with rules for basic operation on numbers including counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It is difficult to think of a situation where an average person does not make regular use of arithmetic in daily life.

For example, we use arithmetic for so many routine activities like:

1. finding out time by looking at our watches
2. figuring out how many more days of school before we get off for Saturday and Sunday
3. comparing prices of shirts you contemplate buying
4. deciding on quantities of different items you need to purchase for a party you are hosting at your home

The list is endless. But I hope examples given  illustrate clearly the widespread use of arithmetic in our daily lives.

Arithmetic allows anyone to have a more fuller life. By calculating things we can understand daily activities and accomplish things. 

So far today, I have used math in these ways:

1) Found out how much I make per month, given that I make so much a semester.

2) Found out how much unemployment I may get per month.

3) How long I talked to my mother on the phone.

4) Counted how many baby goats we have now and will have after all of the does deliver

5) Looked at the clock and told time

6) Calculated how long before dinner is ready and if the kids can have a snack

I'm sure that there are more. You use some basic math concepts continually and never even realize it.

All of the mental math we do everyday keeps your mind sharp. With our fast paced, short attention span, digital world, it is very easy to become passive. We want to be spoonfed information. We have to use our brains for math. Basic mental math, arithmetic, keeps us mentally active and in the game.

I think the previous posts discuss very well the idea of basic arithmetic in daily life.  I would also suggest that one of the critical uses of math on a daily basis is that it gives us a way to examine the world in which we live.  One critical use of daily arithmetic is checking accounts online.  With the threat of identity theft and online banking, it is critical to be able to possess an overall sense of basic arithmetic in such settings.
