I think that different answers will be present. I have always felt that by the end of third grade might be a good benchmark when mastery, or at least strong comprehension of multiplication facts, should be present. Certainly, multiplying 0 to 10 should be present at this time. I think this would have to be so because division starts to appear in fourth grade, and with that complexities in number patterns and theory begin to emerge. By the end of third grade should be a good benchmark for basic multiplication mastery. Posted by akannan on Nov 2, 2009. |

Honestly, as soon as possible. I'm not saying cram 32 x 25 into a 4 year old's brain, but education can and should definitely increase its capability. Take the "Your Baby Can Read" for example, starting early with reading results in the success of a toddler being able to comprehend and read short stories. Compared to other developed countries such as China, our education is not hard. Starting around the end of 2nd grade or the beginning of 3rd grade is a justifiede grade level.
