    Poe was a master of description, mood, and suspense.  Poe uses vivid description to put the reader into the story, which is important to have the right effect on the reader.  By describing the setting in so much detail, the reader can immerse himself/herself into the story.   Poe also provides foreshadowing in the story, which is when a hint of events to come is revealed.  Although the reader may not know exactly what may happen, he/she can sense that something truly disturbing or horrifying will happen!
