Overview

Clothing designer Tommy Hilfiger began his career as a vendor of hippie fashions, eventually going to work for disco-era couturier Jordache. By the mid-1980s Hilfiger had enough name recognition within the industry to create his own line of clothing, which he did in 1985 with a preppy collection.
