Although, as commentator Bill Vance observed, "Somewhere West of Laramie" sounded like the title of a novel or a song, it was in fact the headline of a 1923 print advertisement for the Playboy, a car produced by the Jordan Motor Car Company, Inc. The Cleveland-based firm, which operated from 1916 to 1931, made little impact on the world of cars, but the effect of the ad was stupendous. The founder of the company, Edward S.
