Mukherjee's short story "The Management of Grief" focuses on the character of Shaila Bhave, an East Indian immigrant to Toronto, Canada, whose husband and two sons have just died in a plane crash. The relatives of many of her friends and neighbors were also killed in the same crash. This story is concerned with the ways in which Mrs. Bhave, as well as those around her, deal with death.
