In the following viewpoint Leonard Sax disputes biologist Anne Fausto-Sterling’s suggestion that the number of sexes should be expanded from two to five. Sax argues that the number of intersexuals, individuals with male and female sexual characteristics, is fewer that Fausto-Sterling alleges. Thus, in Sax’s opinion, the problem of gender confusion is less widespread than Fausto-Sterling claims it is.
