As life goes on in Gopher Prairie, Carol still finds herself dissatisfied. She is disappointed when she sees the angry Red Swede, Miles Bjornstam, soften his defiant stance as he falls in love with Carol’s maid Bea and marries her, buying his own dairy farm and becoming a part of capitalist society.
