Curie was born on December 6, 1904, in Paris, France, the second daughter of Nobel Prize-winning physicists Marie and Pierre Curie. Her father died when she was very young. She describes a childhood filled with her mother’s love but with little discipline, direction, or direct attention, as Marie Curie was almost completely absorbed by her work. While her older sister, Irene, became her mother’s laboratory assistant while still a teenager, Eve had no inclination toward the sciences, excelling instead in music.
