It's a complete contrast of personality. Banquo shows readers and audiences that he was not effected by the wicthes predictions, he dismisses them.
"...The instruments of darkness speak truths;/ Win us with honest trifles, to betray's/ In deepest consequence.-"
Whereas Macbeth, also first thought of as a noble, loyal and praiseworthy by the King as a vitorious soilder is "rapt", seduced by the witches predictions. This contrast of how Banquo and Macbeth react to the tempting predictions is a key comparison to how very different these characters are.
