    The Sergent says that

If I say sooth, I must report they were (40)
As cannons overcharged with double cracks,
    So they
Doubly redoubled strokes upon the foe.
Except they meant to bathe in reeking wounds,
    Or memorize another Golgotha, (45)

The Sergent is detailing how valiant and relentless Macbeth and his troops are in battle. "Golgotha" was the mount where Jesus was crucified. The sargeant wonders at the blood bath and wasn't sure if there was going to be another cruxifiction scene with Macbeth or his opponents figuratively, "hung on the cross."
