1. Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not? Let’s say you and a friend are together. Your trusted friend says she or he sees a ghost. You do not see anything at all. Would you believe him or her, and what would you do?

Possible responses: Answers will vary, but students may claim that ghosts are not real and that they would seek help for a friend who says he or she has seen a spirit. If they do believe or are not sure, they would likely ask the friend a series of questions.
