Judging from the atmosphere and details in the story, you can tell that the setting is somewhere in the 60's or 70's. What I would call historical about that is that here we are in 2009 and the feelings of emptiness, the anxiety to connect, and the sense of loneliness that the main character experiences can be easily identified and re-connected to this time and age.  Furthermore, her sexual obsession and what comes as a result of it denotes a person who is bottled within the walls of her own weaknesses, which is also a universal theme.
