Luigi Pirandello was an exceptionally prolific writer. In addition to seven novels, he produced numerous volumes of short stories later collected in a series entitled Novelle per un anno (1922; two volumes), thus named because there is a tale for nearly every day of the year; several collections of poetry; more than forty plays; and a considerable number of essays, reviews, and journalistic pieces.
