If the theme is loss and grief, etc., does anyone know of a relatively short passage that can represent this theme? I have a report due tomorrow on this book and one of the requirements is to have a passage included with an explanation of the theme. However, I cannot seem to find a concise passage that shows the theme well enough. Posted by lsxo on Jan 8, 2008. |

To be honest, I would start with the first lines of the book. A salmon should return home to spawn; Susie can't. It spells out that she was killed, and that she lived in a time and place where missing girls were so common that newspaper pictures of them had a common look. That's very sad. Would that work? Yes I think it could. Thank you very much for your help. In addition to that, maybe I will include a few other passages of a couple members of the familys' personal ways of greiving. Ex: Buckely built a fort; Lindsey snuck in her room; Their mother had an affair; etc. Posted by lsxo on Jan 8, 2008. |
