What essentially are the people in Jackson's story "The Lottery"? Are they evil?
Or are they very much like us?

The characters.seem to be entrenched in the system of tradition so fully, that few even question the lottery. Mr. Martin, Joe Summers, Old man Warner, Bill Hutchinson , and all seem to feel that to do away with the system will be the end of the village. Even though Mr. and Mrs. Adams question the tradition, they still participate. While some are truly evil, I would have to say that most do the lottery because it is a tradition, and that has always been what was done.
