Posted by cmcqueeney on Tuesday October 30, 2007 at 9:15 AMSimon chooses a spot of quiet beauty away from the other boys. This spot is significant to his character because Simon alone notices the beauty of the island. Also, Simon as a character possesses more depth and sensitivity than the other characters. The secluded spot and the author's description of it reflect that. The seclusion of the spot also echoes Simon's feelings about himself. He knows he is different from the other boys, and for a while he feels like he can help them even though he was not the chosen leader.
