    The crashing plane in the untouched jungle cuts a path through the dense trees on the island.  The plane, a symbol of civilization, advanced technology, invades the pristine beauty of the island and results in bringing out the most primal behavior in the boys.  

    "the portion of jungle scarred by the wreckage of their crashed plane"  

    They crash on a tropical island, creating the need to establish a social order in an effort to survive the crisis of being alone with no adult supervision.
