This, indeed, is an intriguing question.
Roger, who early on in "The Lord of the Flies" relishes the license to be mean that the island provides him, throws stones at Henry sitting on the shore and stops short of harming Henry only because of his conditioning in civilization. Known as Jack's hangman, Roger is cruel by nature; without any feelings for others, his is a sociopathic nature. It is Roger, of course, who murders Piggy in a most brutal manner, so he represents the ultimate savage nature in the lost group of boys.
When Roger returns to society, he should be tried for the murder of Piggy and incarcerated and placed under psychological scrutiny. With his sociopathic nature and his inclinations for cruelty having been unleased on the island, it is doubtful if Roger can be reconditioned and "go home again" to use Thomas Wolfe's expression for one's returning to what he once was.
