The description of the morning as a hopeful, pleasant time of day that gives way to a more assertive and aggressive afternoon is done by using personification in chapter four. Golding describes the sun at midday as having "gazed down like an angry eye"(58) upon the boys. The heat seemed to be striking out at themĀ like "a blow that they ducked" (58). The weather is given human qualities that gives the reader visual image of the boys circumstances on the island.
