Explain the reason that Ralph gives for the boys' defection to Jack. Chapter 9. Please help me?

    Ralph believes that the boys have left simply for meat.  Ralph had made Jack the head of the hunting group, but they were all supposed to still be under Ralph.  Once there is meat however, Jack seems to hold more authority over the boys.
