    The statements regarding 'civilized time' versus 'natural time' have to do with the boys' experiences on the island. In chapter four Golding foreshadows time to show that the boys are slipping away from their civilized human nature to one that is more animalistic in nature. Suggesting a shift in their behavior from the type of individual who understands the concept of a wristwatch hence 'civilized time' to that of a pre-civilized human or animal who recognizes day from night only by the natural enviornment. The boys are regressing because they are not faced with the societial norms and restrictions that a civilized society places upon human beings.
