When Simon slips away into the jungle, he finds a hiding place all his own. He is away from all of the bickering between Ralph and Jack and the other boys. From within this new place, Simon’s view of the island changes and he now sees how beautiful the island really is. He also can focus on the truth of the situation. This shows his ability to be insightful, introspective, and understanding. He begins to see what needs to be done: the huts must be built, Ralph needs to take charge, and the island is is not a place to fear, but to appreciate for its beauty. It is his ability to understand clearly, away from all the noise and childishness of the others, that will allow him to see the true nature of the beast.
