In Chapter 12, Ralph says to himself, "You'll get back". Compare this to what Simon told Ralph in chapter 7.

 Explain the irony of this now in Chapter. 12.

    When Ralph says to himself "you'll get back." he is recalling and reinforcing what Simon told him on the rocks overlooking the ocean.  He becomes isolated from the group and is running for his life from Jack and the "hunters." 

    The irony is that Simon won't get back because the group killed Simon.  Ralph will indeed get back, but at what cost?  He is not the same young boy that landed on the island.  He has gone through trauma that his change him forever.
