After the raid the boys come back to "the need for ritual."  Ralph tells them to sit down and begins to talk about the need for fire.

"The fire's the most important thing.  Without the fire, we can't be rescued.  I'd like to put on war-paint and be a savage.  But we must keep the fire burning. The fire's the most important thing on the island, because, because-"
    "Piggy whispered urgently. "Rescue."

The boys left begin to pass the conch around and follow the same rituals they had created before things fell apart.  They were torn however because they wanted meat.  They were hungry and at one point Ralph asks why they can't get their own meat.  Piggy, always logical, points out that Jack is the hunter. Then Piggy suggests they build a new fire on the beach. Once again they feel that they have a purpose.
