Posted by mrerick on Friday June 1, 2007 at 7:42 PMSome critics say that Golding cheated a little bit by using boys instead of men on this island...that part of why their society breaks up so quickly is because they aren't acquainted enough with the adult aspects of cooperation and compromise. However, the interlying theme of warfare carries through to the adults in the novel also. So at all ages, according to Golding, unless we're checked by a system of rewards and punishments, all of mankind would savagely tear itself apart.
