The Story:
Amy Dorrit, who was better known as Little Dorrit, had been born in Marshalsea debtors’ prison. Although her mother died soon after, the little girl, along with her older brother and sister, continued to live in the prison with their bankrupt father; he was the only member of the family not permitted to leave the prison.
