This so-called German utopia of Andreae, influenced as it was by Thomas More and influencing in turn Francis Bacon, completes in a strikingly circular way the first century of European utopianism. Christianopolis was conspicuously more religious in its essential spiritual conception than the regime of King Utopus, but both were equally involved in the dilemmas and complexities of the utopian political impulse.
