A few years ago, a student shared an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 that featured a "bad" version of Hamlet. I have never laughed so hard in my life. Wanting to share the joy with my students, I played the short show in class. I remember my dismay when the humor went right over the heads of both my regular and my honors classes. In fact, only some of my AP level kids "got" it. But I digress, . . . I already own a VHS copy of this episode; however, does anyone else know of another Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode featuring any other versions of great literature? I'm in need of a laugh. : ) Posted by ms-charleston-yawp on Aug 7, 2009. |

I don't know any off the top of my head, but here's a link to an episode guide online: You could try searching the episode descriptions. Good luck! I used to love watching MST3K when I was a teenager. Posted by mrsmonica on Aug 8, 2009. |

I had forgotten all about MST3K. I used to love watching it. Are you a fan of Doctor Who? I can't recall any parodies of literature in any episodes, but the Doctor has "met" several famous authors: Charles Dickens, Agatha Christie, Shakespeare. He even meets Queen Victoria, and one of the running gags is that he and his companion keep trying to get the queen to say, "We are not amused." Other great parodies to try are Black Adder (specializes in Brit Lit). There are some great episodes regarding Johnson and his dictionary and the Romance poets--Keats, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley. Another I love is the Reduced Shakespeare Company. It is hilarious!! Enjoy! Posted by amy-lepore on Aug 12, 2009. |
