I'm in year 11 and I want a challenging yet interesting book.

Anyone have any ideas?

I recently read "The Time Travellers Wife" which I would recommend to everyone, because it's so good and gripping.

One of my favorite author's is Ayn Rand.  You might try "The Fountainhead," "Atlas Shrugged," or "We The Living."  Other more recent novels by other authors are: " Water for Elephants," "The Life of Pi," "The Memory Keeper's Daughter,"  "The Outlander," series by Diana Gabaldon, "Bel Canto," and "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova.

These titles are of various themes and I enjoyed them all.  Another suggestion for looking for titles is to go to the link here at enotes. There are referances to 100's of author's, subjects and novels.  You can not only get suggestions, but you can also read a little about the book before you buy it or check it out of the library.

Stephanie Meyer is a good book auther or read an autobiography of someyou like or find interessting.

hey you have probably watched the movie twillight and thought it sucked possibly but the book is amazing and way better then the movie twillight the book will have you laughing and crying at times ... its amazing

I will encourage you to read the entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkein. These books were in my high school library and caused me to become more involved in what I could do to help my society from what I perceived to be a "great evil".

Tolkein is an excellent story-teller. The books are gripping, and inspiring.

I would suggest you try "In the Lake of the Woods" by Tim O'Brien.  His is a very interesting author who uses modern techniques to create a thoroughly enjoyable story (the reading, if not the plot) that has an interesting approach to time.  Many of my students who have read this book have continued to read other of O'Brien's books, particulatly "The Things They Carried."  It is also a great read.

Hi - I'm a 6th grade Language Arts teacher.  Here is a list of books that I recommend to my students.

Realistic Fiction - The Outsiders, The Shadow Club*, Silent to the Bone, Chasing Vermeer, Becoming Naomi Leon, The View From Saturday*, Hatchet, Peak, Far North*, The Wednesday Wars*.  * = Higher Level or books that I use in my honors class.

Science Fiction - Things Not Seen, any of the Cirque De Freak books, The Giver*.

Historical Fiction - Hattie Big Sky*, Black Storm Coming*, The Things They Carried.

The only ones I'm not crazy about are Cirque de Freak.  I actually don't recommend Twilight for eleven year olds, as I find the content of the 4th book to be inappropriate.

You can always check the Newberry books for the upcoming year, that list has already been published.

"The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold is definitely challenging so that could be a good one for you. "Oryx and Crake" and "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood are good for something a little different and if you like "The Time Traveller's Wife" then you should like those.

Pat Barker is absolutely amazing and I would recommend anything by her; especially "The Regeneration Trilogy".

Another one that is absolutely stunning is "Mister Pip" by Lloyd Jones.

I always suggest "1984" by George Orwell. It is especially gripping because of its connection with our own government.

"The Time Machine" by HG Wells is also gripping.

If you are looking for something more contemporary, you might try "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles" by Haruki Murakami. It has a good mystery to it.

Could you clarify what you mean by "year 11"?  I am thinking that some of us think that you are 11 years old. Are you in 11th grade?

An eleventh grade student should have already Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, 1984 by George Orwell is also excellent.

Animal Farm by George Orwell is another excellent book.

As I recall, the 11th grade focused on American Literature.  I will suggest that Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein is a good book with a strange twist at the end.
