    The beginning of Tita's rebellion towards tradition and her mother, happen at an early age when Tita started having feelings for Pedro.  Tradition calls for the youngest daughter to remain unwed and to take care of the elders in the family until death; there was no option.  When Pedro asks for Tita's hand in marriage, he is challenging the family honor and tradition; therefore, rebelling against the norms of society.
