What is the symbolism of the carnivorus island in the story of Life of Pi?

  1. It's not entirely clear but I think the island is most likely an allegory of the Garden of Eden.  The whole story reads something like a biblical narrative, and the carnivorous island can be viewed as the Garden of Eden and Man before the Fall. This Paradise falls apart when Pi discovers the "forbidden fruit" containing the teeth of a previous human inhabitants.
