What does Pi's journaling say about the human need for communication?
Journaling is one of the ways that Pi keeps himself sane and occupied while alone in the middle of the ocean is by writing in his journal.

This is why so many people keep diaries and write their deepest, darkest secrets in them. We also write about our dreams and needs. By putting these things in writing, they are immortalized. We can go back to them at a later time and measure our progress in attaining our dreams or look back at that time with fond memories.
Consider how much we have learned from reading The Diary of Anne Frank. Her diary will always be a way for us to personally know what it was like for Jews in the Holocaust. It is because Anne put her thoughts, feelings, and dreams down in writing that we can know this. Writing in her diary was her only way to tell of her feelings while living in such cramped quarters, and they will be remembered forever.
This is why writing is so important to Pi. It gives him an outlet to express his fears and how his experience was affecting and changing him. This is why all of us as humans need and want to communicate.

High School - 11th GradePosted by mesweet on Tuesday January 22, 2008 at 6:48 AMAs you know that human is a social animal.Therefore human needs to socialize in order to survive.Similarly ,it was very important for Pi to share is feelings and experiences with someone.As there was no one on the lifeboat who can understand his feelings,Pi started writing journals in which he used to talk about his daily experiences and adventures.In order to support the answer i would like to provide an example-For instance in the early days the best way to punish the criminals was to isolate them.As the result of this act ,either criminals used to die or become insane.
