why does he go here?why doesnt he go straight home to report on his visit with jefferson to aunt emma?what is ironic about the name of the place he visit?

    After his first visit alone with Jefferson at the jail, Grant goes to the Rainbow Club because he is upset by Jefferson's behavior and isn't ready to face Miss Emma with what happened. While he's thinking of what to tell her, Grant decided to get a drink and take some time for himself. I guess the irony is that rainbows are a symbol of hope and a bright future, neither of which Jefferson has.
