Question:
Is there a certain age you have to be to purchase a lighter?
My 14 year old son was sold a lighter from a nearby store & almost caused an explosion in our garage.Is there a law saying that there is a certain age to purchase a lighter?

State law varies on this subject, but typically the laws in place to prevent the sale of a lighter to a minor are coupled with an intent to ingest tobacco or illegal narcotics. The sale of a lighter to a minor is not in and of itself a violation of law, unless there is material evidence that the intent of the minor is to use it as paraphernalia to ingest tobacco or other drugs. There are no laws which overtly prohibit the offer or sale of a lighter to a minor for general purposes.
