anykind of testing (medical or cosmetic)

There is no correct answer to this -- it's only opinion.  Here's mine:

Animal testing for important medical products is, without question, good.  That is, as long as there is no way to test that is just as good.  I don't believe animal lives are as important as human lives and so if they have to die to make our lives better in important ways, fine.

For cosmetics, that's not so clear.  I'm not at all sure that make-up is important enough to warrant animal testing.  Animal lives may not be as important as ours, but they're not ours to just throw away for no good reason.

Whether its banned or not it will continue to be done, because as other posts have indicated, alternatives that are good enough don't quite exist.  The deeper issue here is a perceived violation of "animal rights" and that's predicated upon the perception that the creatures that are tested are by necessity generally similar to humans.  If the next wonder drug could be tested on 10,000 cockroaches instead of a few monkeys, would any animal rights activist be upset?  But if they claim rights for creatures near to us in the tree of life, why not for creatures further abranched from us?  Either ban testing for all animals, and suffer the consequences of underground research and few new medicines, or allow testing and understand those engaged in such research are held to a high standard of conduct towards animals by watchdog groups.
