The author uses a metaphor to compare Cora and Alice. What does he compare them to and why?

    Cora is compared to a raven, not just because of her coloring (dark black hair) but also because of her boldness and bravery (Cora is also of mixed blood making her darker; the two sisters have different mothers.

    Alice is fair and timid, and Natty frequently compares her to a dove.
