Many literary critics regard The Land That Time Forgot to be Burroughs's best work because it has a strong central idea that is carefully worked out in detail and has an imaginary world, Caspak, that is fully developed. The book's novellas tell the stories of three different men who become trapped in the wildly strange land of Caspak, which is filled with voracious carnivores and hostile primitive tribesmen. Each novella is a tale of high adventure and suspense; they are page-turners that can keep their readers riveted from beginning to end.
