The lover appears to know the princess well. They're both in love and are very happy together before the king interferes. The lover does open the door that the princess points to, showing not so much as a moment of hesitation. This shows the strength of his feelings for her and how much trust he puts on her. He opens the door on the right because he believes that his princess wouldn't let anything happen to him; he’s certain that the door will grant him safety from the tiger.
