He finds women attractive, yet feels they are inferior to men. He enters the affair with Anna, assuming that he will just enjoy another meaningless affair. When he finds that he actually loves her, he gives up everything to be with her. Gurov realizes that until this point, he has never truly loved, and it changes him.

Posted by sullymonster on Sunday October 21, 2007 at 7:01 PMGurov is a romantic at heart. His actions contradict this, but as a man who was put into an arranged marriage, he is always searching for more fulfillment from love then he has experienced. He remains aloof from Anna at first because he has lost heart with the possibility of romance. That is why he is so unsettled to discover he is in love with her. It is what he has been searching for, to feel he can give himself to another.
