The Story:
As he followed a stag during a hunt, James Fitz-James became lost in the Highlands. He wandered around until he came to Loch Katrine, a beautiful lake surrounded by steep mountains. There he met the lovely Ellen, who told him that his coming had been foretold by Allan-Bane, an ancient minstrel who served her father. When she offered the hunter food and shelter for the night, Ellen did not volunteer to tell him her name or anything of her family history, and out of courtesy he did not ask questions.
