In The Kite Runner, is Amir's description of his relationship with Babba accurate?

    Amir does not feel close to "Baba."  He feels taken care of, safe, well fed, secure, but not loved in the manner he wishes to be loved.  When Amir wins the Kite Tournament in the winter of 1975, he feels like he has finally made Baba proud of him, but it doesn't last.  When Amir is grown and goes back to Afghanistan to visit Rahim Khan, he is told that his father kept the secret of Hassam from him then he realizes many things about his father. Some of the things were true and many were not true, but he realized that his father should not have been put on the pedestal that Amir had placed him.
